There is no route to the more
compassionate country that we want to be which doesn’t pass through the more prosperous country that we need to be.

Let’s get to work.

In the optimism of the 2000s, we thought “we can end child poverty in a generation” - it felt tough but certainly not impossible.

A generation on and more children are in poverty than ever on record.

A fact that shames us all

This is a direct consequence of the government introducing the two child limit and benefits cap.

43% of children in one parent households with three or more children are 'food insecure'.

A policy choice.

Looking at such huge numbers, it's important to remember the people behind each one. Elen is a single parent who came to us for help with food and fuel costs when she had only 7p left on her PPM.

Elen is one of 1000s of women we were able to help with crisis support last year.

Women who are single parents, social tenants and those who are disabled/ have a LTH condition are more likely to come to us for help with cost-of-living issues.

On average, compared to all our debt clients, women who are single parents have less left after covering essentials.
