Great to be out on the doors again. I’m campaigning with new Labour MP Jayne Kirkham MP for Truro & Falmouth in Falmouth today supporting Alan Rowe, the candidate in the Penwerris by-election on 19 September.

I worked with Nicky in my time in the shadow environment team. She was strong willed, passionate about our climate and nature and supportive. I’m sad to hear of her passing. Nicky, thank you and rest in peace.

Real treat today being shown around the Octagon Brewery building by Bulletproof Brew Co.. This proud old building has been many things. Most recently home to hip hop with Streetfactory. Exciting times ahead for it as a brewery and bar. Looking forward to what is possible here. 🍺

Good morning with the amazing young people, families and coaches at PEM Disability Football Club supporting young people playing footy. Good to see strong Plymouth-wide support for the club and its work including from local businesses.

The UK condemns Hamas’ appalling murder of 6 innocent hostages in Gaza in the strongest terms. I offer my deepest condolences to those grieving at this awful time. Hamas must release all the hostages immediately, and all sides must accept the deal on the table to end this war.

On the train to London. Back to Westminster tomorrow. Between time in the MOD I’m hoping to progress some Plymouth campaigns this week. Lots to do. Looking forward to getting stuck in.

It was a pleasure to see Ukraine's Defence Minister, Rustem Umerov today and to host him at RUSI. Ukraine's security is our security. I spoke with him about the situation on the frontline and our work to accelerate and ramp up deliveries of UK military support.

“Our nuclear deterrent is the bedrock of our defence”. Defence Secretary John Healey visited one of the Royal Navy’s submarines in Scotland last weekend. He met the ships company to better understand the role submariners play in defending the nation’s nuclear deterrent.

It is awful news that a member of our Royal Navy died in an incident yesterday. My thoughts are with their family, friends and colleagues. I want to thank the Ship’s Company of HMS Queen Elizabeth and all those who assisted in the search and rescue operation. An investigation has started.

Love this thread - have a read. Everyone who works in defence is part of making our country safe. Everyone, from the admirals to the cooks, the cleaners to the pilots. Everyone. And everyone should be treated with decency and respect too. Defence is a whole team effort.
