As someone who feels very strongly about masking— #COVIDIOTS is not going to work. Ostracizing people that don’t wear masks may work on a few, & will likely inspire opposition in majority. We need to appeal to shared values, like not wanting to accidentally kill loved ones.

idsociety.org/practice-guide… The recently revised IDSA #COVID19 treatment guidelines recommend the use of dexamethasone 6 mg IV of PO for 10 days among hospitalized patients with severe COVID-19 based on the results of the #recoverytrial

The phone call comes in the early morning hours. It is a call they’ve been dreading. His wife’s hands shake as she fumbles with her phone, trying to use FaceTime, her vision blurry with tears. He sits silently beside her. While she sobs, he remembers. These crooked paths. 1/

1/ Blanket guidance like “wear a mask” is largely unhelpful IF it is not followed up w/ key messaging around *when* & *where* masks are most important AND when cloth/surgical masks may not be good enough (hint- we have other tools at our disposal) Some thoughts: #covid19

Pretexual police stops result in racial profiling and place Black people at risk of being killed. #DijonKizzee went from being stopped for a bike violation to being killed and handcuffed. Remember how #PhilandoCastile was killed.

1/ 💭Thoughts of a trainee💭 “Should I call my [resident/fellow/attending]?” “I don’t want to be a bother.” “I don’t want them to think I’m dumb.” Sound familiar? I know these thoughts plagued me. How can we prevent this? This week’s #ClinicalTeaching topic: Be Available

#TipsForNewDocs Pt prescribed a med- on follow-up, is not taking it. Wrong: "Pt is noncompliant." Right: "Pt unable to take med because __. We discussed strategies including __." Don't start chart rumors - understanding problems >>>>> labeling patients. #kittlesonrules

Very proud of our own Dr. Jen Brody, Ayana “Get out & Vote” Jordan & Sarah Wakeman for this important, essential piece of writing from STAT. It's time to end the 'diagnosis' of excited delirium, as it is too often used to justify excessive police force. Read more: statnews.com/2021/04/06/exc…
