Healthcare scientists comprise 5% of the NHS workforce; their work underpins 80% of all diagnoses. Respiratory physiologists, like Lucy, are vital, running diagnostic and maintenance testing, such as the six-minute walk to assess oxygen levels and heart rate during exercise 🫁🫀

So, could the 6MWT be shortened in duration? In 102 patients with PH, the distance walked in the 1st minute (or any other interval) correlated ~perfectly with 6MWT distance, as shown 40 yrs before. We found ~identical results for 91 patients with #InterstitialLungDisease 4/10

A study has shown a 1-minute walk test could be just as effective as a 6-minute walk test when it comes to assessing #PulmonaryHypertension. But how soon could we see a change in clinical practice? 🎬 Hear from the study’s lead researcher Joe Newman: shorturl.at/hxzEH

Presented at ARTP conf. #ARTP2024 Could 6MWT be shortened still capture desaturation in ILD? Our data suggests minimum SpO2 over different periods 6MWT had equivalent mortality prediction. 3 minutes of walking able to detect AOT SpO2 desaturation (< 88%) in majority ILD cohort
