It was the first year anniversary of the coronation of Oba of Iwa and Apapa Kingdom in Lagos. He used the occasion to confer Royal titles on some family members. One of such is the title of Iya Oba meaning Mother of the King ( not biological) to Alhaja Ajobi Adams.

We created an unforgettable experience with Loving Lagos riding in one of Lagos transportation vehicles from the 70’s till early 90’s known as the ‘ BOLEKAJA ‘ . Bolekaja is a Yoruba word meaning ‘ Come down let us all fight ‘ 😂 My name is Babatunde, a Lagos Tour guide

I also learned they have bumba-meu-boi here in Lagos festivals, and I know it from Brazil!! Aduke explained that the dance was originally from this region and taken with the enslaved to Brazil. But then, Afro-Brazilians brought it back to Lagos in the late 1800s. Full circle!

Aduke also told me about the Eyo funeral rites, festivals, masquerades, and the significance of the rites, the staff (stick), the hats, robes, family deities and lines, etc. so fascinating!
