Thanks to the North Shore for having me back as your councillor. I’m proud to be the highest polling councillor on the Shore again, with the highest vote tally in Auckland this time around. Please read my long post here: facebook.com/share/p/17ADSF…

Great to spend time with Mayor Wayne Brown and his family at his party last night, & congratulate him on his re-election. He was on fine form and feeling positive for the term ahead. I look forward to once again working hard with him to make our city better, on our priorities…

This man is beyond belief. He just doesn't get it. It's the workers that want to strike, they voted. Prime Minister Christopher Luxon blames unions for ongoing strike action rnz.co.nz/news/political…

this important area of work for our city, our people, our environment, and for future generations. Despite the serious face in the photo, I am very honoured and happy about it. 😆 (Taken at hour 7 of chairing a very intense committee.)

We’ve got huge challenges and opportunities ahead. We’ve just approved PC 120 for consultation, which changes our planning rules to better protect people and property from floods and other hazards, while focusing new homes in safer, connected places near jobs & public transport.

It also removes blanket rules allowing three-storey housing on most residential sites across Auckland. But, as we have to provide for the same capacity, it focuses more homes near town centres, train/bus stations, with easier access to jobs, services, & frequent public transport.

Big decisions will need to be made after we hear from Aucklanders, and they won’t all be easy. I expect to still be working closely with Minister Chris Bishop and other ministers on planning and housing, and to see where we land on funding and financing of infrastructure -

especially if they want to prioritise more greenfield growth, which, as we stand, is really unaffordable and can lead to poor outcomes for people and the environment when we often cannot get appropriate infrastructure and amenities to service those areas currently.

There’s also more investment and focus needed in climate action, adaptation, parks and green spaces, environmental protection, water quality, and waste.

All committees, roles, and what areas they’re responsible for will be announced over the coming weeks, after the Mayor has had a chance to speak with everyone to understand their passions and interests, and how everything all fits together.

I look forward to working alongside the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, all councillors, Houkura members, Local Board members, our staff, and most importantly our community on these big issues.

Ngl pretty stoked by this result. Huge effort by the City Vision team esp given I couldn’t knock a single door & there was a misinfo campaign. Won back control of 2/3 local boards and held even in the third. And look at that stonking 3rd place for AEP from Jon Turner 💚❤️
