For real, cis people. Please imagine living in a country that looks like this for you. Like I have had to spend a lot of time just trying to figure out whether or not it is safe for me to take upcoming work trips.

This is the room you pull together when your staffers want pictures with tech industry AI celebrities. It's not the room you'd assemble when you want to better understand what AI is, how (and for whom) it functions, and what to do about it.

This whole confusing episode has been a powerful illustration of why AI needs to be subject to vigorous and informed democratic control and not left to the vagaries of corporate governance.

As an Italian, I am asking all AI ethics and safety researchers to stop what they are doing and redirect the entirety of their efforts towards preventing this
