2/5 Cornell gave me funding. Walt LaFeber gave me my professional career and passion for history. When I did settle on a dissertation topic, he trusted me to explore my own interests, to merge the history of American empire and Latinx history. I’ve been on that channel ever since

3/5 His books! That crisp writing and his clear argument about U.S. landed and economic expansion that coursed through all of his work. His Inevitable Revolutions helped me understand the events that shaped my own political coming of age, the Reagan-era wars in Central America.

4/5 He was an amazing lecturer. He always started with the story of people & then explored the choices that they made; each lecture delivered for 50 minutes precisely, no note in view. He taught Tuesday, Thursday, & Saturday to tamp down enrollment to a manageable 200 or so.

5/5 His very full life stood as a testimony that the most brilliant people could also be the kindest. Blessings to his family whom he loved so much. Along with Shannon Smith, Anne Foster, Beth Murphy Weithman, Sayuri Shimizu, Jim Siekmeier, & Susan Brewer, #ProudLaFeberStudent.

So much love and respect at the gathering honoring the life and legacy of Cruz Reyoso. Just found out he was half-way though his biography before he died. Cruz Reynoso's early years alone are book-worthy!!

Attending Day2 of #HACU2021 Nextgen Assessment. I like that Brooklyn College is targeting professional development to faculty who teach courses with large performance gaps, and I am wondering how much of this UC Davis might already be doing? UC Davis Division of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion HACU

Even better (says the historian) the U. of Florida is busy compiling a history of the campus, including the names that appear there.. TheUC Davis HSI Task Implementation Force launched a similar, on-going effort last spring.#ThinkBigDiversity HACU
