What a sight! Take a look at these gannets raining into the sea, Sue has been seeing plenty of gannets across the past few weeks which is always pleasure! Other than seals (of course) what are your favourite wildlife species to spot when you're out by the sea? x

Sheer incredulity - that’s my reaction. These people are dangerous, all the more because I suspect they know better. #ClimateAction #ParisAccord #ParisAgreement #COP26

The government should ditch its planning proposals, not because they're unpopular but because they won't work. They won't result in more new homes, just more of the wrong sort of developments in the wrong places. 1/

.Robin Teverson reminds House of Lords of the severity of the twin nature and climate crises in the #EnvironmentBill debate. He calls on the Prime Minister, government and Parliament to give these crises the priority they deserve.

Debate on the fourth group of amendments has now started with Peers pitching new priorities for environmental improvement targets. Robin Teverson kicks off with concerns about the lack of attention given to the marine environment. #EnvironmentBill

.Robin Teverson reiterates the importance of amendment 34 and encourages mandatory engagement with the Office for Environmental Protection on who should be consulted on setting environmental improvement targets.. #EnvironmentBill

And they just keep coming! Robin Teverson is now on his feet adding his concerns on OEP independence. He reminds us of the government's commitment to world leading environmental governance in the #EnvironmentBill - it must be strengthened to deliver this.

Ruth Chambers (@ruthmchambers) 's Twitter Profile Photo

.Robin Teverson raises an important point on divergence from the EU on chemicals standards which causes confusion, increases costs to chemical supply chains & could increase animal testing. Baroness Bloomfield responds for the govt. The #EnvironmentBill already enables a review.

Ruth Chambers (@ruthmchambers) 's Twitter Profile Photo

.Lord Wajid Khan and Robin Teverson argue that the OEP should be empowered to give advice to ministers as it chooses. This is an essential feature of independence. Anything less would undermine the stature and effectiveness of the OEP. #EnvironmentBill

Lord Krebs asks about govt action to ensure fish stocks are harvested at or below maximum sustainable yield. No response from the govt on that one. Robin Teverson reiterates that nature recovery networks must cover land and sea & be developed in a joined up way. #EnvironmentBill

If you defund your environmental regulators then this is a quite predictable outcome. Anyone having a go Environment Agency might like to pause & wonder if the real issue is about capacity (staff resources, legal budgets etc) rather than a lack of commitment to good outcomes.

I love the line about "the world’s first net-zero [coal]mine". Here's to vegetarian abattoirs, pacifist armies, fair & objective football crowds... bit.ly/38jFS8S
