I went back to the holes dug by searchers on the weekend. They often miss things in their rush to fill in before the tide comes back in. Plenty of large pieces of post med and medieval pottery and clay pipes, also a foreign 18th century coin and a 17th century gilt button.

This is one of, probably three, feet from a borderware pipkin, c16th century. Not an entirely unusual find on the foreshore, but what is unusual is the size. This pot must have been a whopper! Perfect for cooking ‘Fenkel in Soppes’ (fennel and ginger). #mudlarking

The base of a Roman tazza, or incense burner, found on the Londinium foreshore. Usually decorated with frills like pie crusts, resin or herbs, like frankincense, myrrh, cinnamon, and rosemary, were placed on a lump of burning coal in the bowl to smoulder. #mudlarking
