A rare sight: a mother leopard with her cubs at Loisaba. Cubs spend their first weeks hidden, learning survival from mum. In partnership with SDZWA, we’re studying leopard behaviour & movements while working with communities to reduce conflict – helping these elusive cats thrive.

When Loisaba rangers noticed Edwin — one of our southern white rhinos — was limping, KWS vets came to assess and treat him. The wound was cleaned again and he received antibiotics and pain relief. He’s recovering well and continues to be closely monitored by our rhino team.

What was once a single giraffe species is now four: northern (G. camelopardalis), southern (G. giraffa), Masai (G. tippelskirchi), and reticulated (G. reticulata). At Loisaba Conservancy, we partner with SDZWA to protect reticulated giraffes from population decline.

Once widespread across the Horn of Africa, Oryx numbers have declined due to habitat loss, hunting, and competition with livestock. Despite these challenges, stable populations remain in well-managed landscapes like #Loisaba, where wildlife and pastoral communities coexist.

Zulu, a 7-year-old eastern black rhino from Lewa, is one of 21 successfully translocated to #Loisaba last year. Drones help our rangers monitor rhinos safely and efficiently — even through dense bush where these browsers love to feed on shrubs and trees.
