Zimbabwe stands on a very bad pedestal. Its been the case for 42 years. Regrettably, those who naively place hopes on 2023 elections also play to the gallery, raising hopes without changing the playing field. Sadly, the play, the umpire and the score sheet have 1 manager-player.

It's so absurd that a Mthwakazi citizen is not covered by laws that are enshrined in Zimbabwe Constitution. Freedom to petition or a peaceful protest only applies to Mashona ethnic groups, but a Mthwakazi child, even a year old can be arrested without considering any rights

When we say the Zimbabwean Government disrespects the constitution, this is what we mean. These are unarmed protesters, demonstrations are guaranteed by the Zimbabwean constitution. Mnangagwa’s Government has criminalized them. The Government must respect the constitution!

Things that don't work in Africa: 1) Elections 2) Parliaments 3) Courts 4) Democracy Isn't it high time we re-imagined alternatives?

Did CR17 see this one coming? By the way private prosecutions are valid in terms of the Criminal Procedure Act 51 of 1977 and on that basis Zuma pulls out a last minute strike in unprecedented party lawfare, charging president. Let's sit and watch how courts stampede on this one

In memory of our gallant Matabele forefathers who fought to resist the colonial occupation of our land on 3 November, 1893: The Battle of Mbembesi At Gadade the Matabele warriors launched a military onslaught on the advancing Pioneer Column. They adopted the bullhorn formation.

iHlathi, iNsukamini, iNqobo, iSiziba & iNduba formed the right flank & led the attack. uMcijo, aMavene, uJinga & iNxa formed the left flank. iMbizo & iNgubo, the crack Matabele regiments formed the military epicentre of the campaign. They were commanded by General Mtshana Khumalo

One of the invaders expressed awe at the Matabele bravery: 'The pluck of iMbizo & iNgubo regiments was amazing. No troops anywhere in the world could've fought & withstood such terrific fire as was unleashed for half as long as the Matebele took it...hr after hr they kept coming'

AmaNdebele fought bravely in defence of their land, their king, their sovereignty, their nation, their dignity & pride as Matabele. They fought until they blocked the nozzle of the Maxim gun with their leather aprons (amabhetshu) after spearing the operator of the machine.'

"In any age, in any land, of any men where brave deeds are sung or told; the feats of the AmaNdebele on the plains of the Shangani and Mbembesi rivers will forever shine and glitter with the best and brightest" (Johannes Collenbrander, 5 November,1893)

I am absolutely overjoyed that Job Sikhala is about to be released but the fundamental injustice remains. It is profoundly shocking that he has spent 595 days in solitary confinement in a maximum security prison. Every person responsible for his long incarceration should hang

Ideally, a commodity backed dollar would be the best option in a country where the fiat currency has been subject to frequent manipulatory tendencies in the last 2 and a half decade. Like the previous currencies which carried an inscription "I promise to pay the bearer on demand"

a currency backed by a real commodity such as gold should sustain convertibility such that every bearer of a banknote should be entitled to bullion of equal value exchangeable at the Reserve Bank on demand. Every bearer of the banknotes should be given gold of equivalent value.

Equivalent value should be paid even in the worst case scenario of a bank run. Regrettably, my eyes have not seen the inscription "I promise to pay the bearer on demand" on the note. Sadly, ZIG is not a commodity currency and the illusion that it is is unfortunate and misleading.
