If people can't pay social care charges, they can't pay. Wasting local tax payers' money on debt recovery and legal actions is not the way forward on the crisis of care charge debt, in the NE (over 6000 care debt recovery actions by Durham Council since 2021) and across the UK.

IMPORTANT! Government have quietly announced the abrupt closure this autumn of the £100m Work & Health programme which funds employment support for disabled people across England and Wales. This would be catastrophic for disabled people.

The Administrative Earnings Threshold increases to 18 hours (£892pm) from May 13th. Couples AET will increase to 29 hours (£1,437pm) at the National Living Wage. Anyone earning less will be put on intensive work search. This hits 140,000 people.

The language on media right now is telling. There’s a ‘crackdown’ on benefits, apparently, like you have a crackdown on drugs or crime. Why not call it as it is, a concerted effort to take money away from disabled people who have a legal right to it?
