I sometimes get asked about the common issues I see across primary schools and the kind of support I offer as a result. This brief blog explains this stuff. As ever, retweets really appreciated (given that the algorithm hates links to blogs). primarycolour.home.blog/2024/09/08/how…

Trying to gain a better knowledge of high quality books suitable for KS3/4, so I can support some secondary colleagues (my knowledge is very much primary-based). What books should I read/where are the best places to look for recommendations? #ourfp #readerteachers

Just a lil reminder that even the most sophisticated of observation instruments* only have very modest relationships with student learning outcomes (Gill, 2016). Worse: evidence suggests that even when experienced raters agree on observations judgements, we tend to be wrong

Never forget: READING FOR PLEASURE has the biggest positive impact of any factor on children's life chances. So never stop sharing books with kids. Never stop reading to them, and helping them to read. Never stop changing lives. #literacy

My new book, Primary Reading Simplified, is released this Monday (27th January). Briefly, I'd like to explain why it exists, who I think will find it useful and where you can find it. >>

I'm absolutely baffled by this. Do the DfE genuinely believe that a struggling reader won't have been identified before Year 8 and that doing another test will make any difference? It's insulting to staff who work in primary schools and won't benefit pupils in any way.
