Today we are celebrating George Washington Carver and his amazing legacy as a person, humanitarian, & scientist. His many scientific contributions include his plant specimens 🌿🌱🌼🌾🌸🍁 in the Iowa State University EEOB @ ISU Ada Hayden Herbarium collections. #BlackHistoryMonth
#BHM Meet Sandra Nnadi, a PhD student at UVM Plant Biology! Sandra research project evaluates the effects of mycorrhizal fungi inoculation on the fungal microbiome of blueberry roots.
#BHM Meet Brandon Williams , a PhD student at Cornell University! Brandon is working on engineering a biofluorescent reporter system in tomatoes that would alert farmers to nitrogen and phosphorus-deficient soil conditions.
#BHM Meet Yoselin Benitez-Alfonso, an Associate Professor and UKRI Future Leaders Fellow at University of Leeds! Yoselin's lab focuses on investigating the properties and regulation of the plasmodesmata that connect plant cells and facilitate cell-to-cell communication.
#BHM Meet Amie Fornah Sankoh, a PhD student at the Danforth Center! Amie is an NIH/NRSA fellow that studies cell-to-cell communication in plants.
#BHM Meet Catherine Danmaigona Clement, a PhD student at Texas A&M University! Catherine deploys genomics to understand cotton fusarium wilt disease outbreaks.
#BHM Meet Rupert Koopman, a Conservation Manager at the Botanical Society of South Africa! Rupert implements plant conservation work in priority regions of South Africa. He's also one of the co-founders of #BlackBotanistsWeek.
#BHM Meet Dr. Carol N. Ibe, founder and president of JR Biotek Foundation!! Along with her role at JRBiotek of training & mentoring African plant scientists, Carol also studies the interactions of the yellow rust pathogen (Puccinia) and wheat.
Special THANKS to all my backbones for all the trainings, skills, and supports. I look forward to changing the world one plant at a time and one Deaf scientist at a time. Thank you Burch-Smith Lab Danforth Center Dan Roberts BCMB_UTK ASPB and LAST but not least, NIH and U.S. National Science Foundation
Looking forward to this conversation! Shoutout to Dr. Erin McCauley for the opportunity! #FoodPowerPolitics
