Whippet yesterday. Beer on left a pale and on right an IPA. Look at the state of them! Fed up of murky beers (hazy my arse), they could be off/dregs of barrel and wouldn’t have clue. Two dark beers and a best bitter on also. Is a couple of solid pale/golden too much to ask for!?

Should you find yourself in Wolverhampton wondering to yourself ‘what went wrong to end up here!?’ Then ease the pain with a visit to Holdens Brewery Great Western. It’s right by the railway station but tucked away so easily missed.

One for our Tamworth cousins and anyone heading that way on a Friday. The clueless gaffer at the Kings Ditch has made his 16th change to the hours in a calendar year! Opens 3pm to serve no one for an hr or so, now close at 8pm when could have a pub full.

Some of the CAMRA Good Beer Guide pubs in our area need to buck up. Gimmick beers and murky fruit slop on nearly every line. Thanks Ember Inns for selling what looks like a beer, and tastes like a beer! Proper Job by St Austell Brewery on this occasion.

For those interested the CAMRA AGM for this branch area (Lichfield, Sutton and Tamworth) is handily taking place in Mancetter. Yeah I had to look it up, it’s the other side of Atherstone and very far from useful. I’ll pass. Recommend everyone else does to make a point.

Finally dropped in at the Turnpike on Boley Park after meaning to for a while now. Really impressed. Whoever’s in charge are really making an effort. Guest beers from Titanic, Burton Bridge and Brains at mo (£3 pint on a Tue!). Could elbow its way into Good Beer Guide.

Queens Head today

I asked the Joule's Brewery Duke of York on FB if there would be a guest beer available after the grand reopening but they deleted the question rather than answer it. I’ll take that as a no and not bother frequenting there or The Angel.

I thought the Horse and Jockey at Freeford had been looking quiet. Unfortunately it’s shut up shop again. Pity as was pleasant inside and did good home cooked grub. Use it or lose it people.
