Sue’s Café on Marine Walk in Roker has been in business for 20 years. It was great to hear the way Sue has invested in the area – using local produce and suppliers, and developing her staff. Small businesses like Sue's are a fantastic example of how to champion the city.

It was good to visit Royal Sunderland Hospital and hear first-hand about the tireless work done by our local NHS staff. I'll continue to speak up for Sunderland in parliament to improve accessibility to good healthcare and to ensure NHS staff are treated fairly.

Everyone deserves to feel safe in their home and community. I was recently in Hendon Ward with Gentoo Group, Northumbria Police and the council's Neighbourhood Enforcement Wardens to discuss how they can best support our communities in Sunderland.

One of my first visits after elected was to Sunderland Veterans in Crisis. I come from a military family and with almost 4,000 veterans in Sunderland Central, I know how important honouring and supporting our veterans is. I look forward to working with VICs in the future.
