The highlight of a beautiful weekend breathing the clean air of Minsmere was getting extended close views of this Bittern which Les Cater informed me is a juvenile.

We need your help again. Coul Links is an extraordinary coastal dune habitat, home to rare and remarkable wildlife. But it is now threatened for a second time by plans for an 18-hole golf course that would cause irreparable damage. Your voice could help save it. 👇

Sometimes it good to try something different, and I like using the background totally out of focus with a narrow depth of field, while using the colours of whats behind the subject to create an artistic colour palet to enhance the image. Female Black Redstart from a few years ago

This week I have been concertrating on the Juvenile Bitterns RSPB Minsmere 🌍 While waiting for them to appear, these two Great White Egrets' did not like each other, so every time one of them landed in the pool to feed, the other would come and chase it off. This happens most days.

For such a big and noisey bird, the Great White Egrets can be so graceful and beautiful when moving over water like this one while feeding. A little hop of a few feet was done smoothly that the water was hardly disturbed. This bird has markings/staining of yellow on its wings.

One of my personal highlights of this year was to see for the first time and photograph, Red Footed Falcons at Carltom marshes in May. Beautiful birds to observe/see over a five day period while they hunted over the marsh, then return to their roost in the late afternoon/evening.

Garden birds not looking well? It could be trichomonosis. By reporting sick or dead birds, you can directly help our scientists understand this disease. Report here: brnw.ch/21wVsGS Please don’t clean or remove feeders until after we visit: this step is crucial.❗

With excellent weather today, a 6.30am start and a eleven hour Bittern watch, I recorded 15 flights, a few landings on the pool right of Island mere hide RSPB Minsmere 🌍 what a brilliant day. Some of the flights were of the same bitterns moving about but at least 7 Bitterns seen 😊

Great to connect w/ friends old & new RSPB #NightOfNature Troxy Honour to see Professor Ian Newton OBE again. Ian helped make the case to #Return sea eagles to Scotland in the 1970s. Thanks to him, they're back! And Ambassador Indy Kiemel Greene see you on #Mull soon!🦅

After a long afternoon Bittern watching, I decided to go for a walk along the Dunes RSPB Minsmere 🌍 early evening. Nice and quiet I came upon this lovely Wheatear which seemd quite happy for me not to get to close, but enough to capture these images on the WW2 tank blocks.

My website mywildlifeimages.com has been updated with my Bittern studies recordings including this years sightings and nesting females numbers, which are down 50% from last years count. 2024 was a bumper year, this years 2025 count is 5-7 nests. Old photos from my archives.

I had forgottern about this photo from May 2025 this year RSPB Minsmere 🌍 . This was taken as a Bittern came into land on the pool in front of Bittern hide. You can see the size of the wings and those long legs, such a big bird but still very elegant in flight. Beautiful Bitterns😊

I would like to apologise to all my followers and others who look at my X page that you will see lots of Bittern images. This is a species which I have been studying the last five years. It has become more than just a few photos, but more a scientific study of Bittern behaviour😊

A late afternoon visit to landguard felixstowe to see the Wryneck resulted in an excellent visit. Although it was showing in poor light, it started to heavy rain and thunder. Everyone rushed to the car park, I walked onto the road, then noticed it had come back out closer to me😊

A three day visit to see and photograph the wonderful Wryneck at Landguard, Felixstowe, I am slowly going through my photos with different areas of vegertation and ground cover. Some will be more up close, others like these images, showing how well it blends in it's surroundings.
