The first pairing of films in this ongoing series is NO KINGS (Emilia Mello, 2020) and BY WAY OF CANARSIE (Emily Packer and Lesley Steele, 2020), two brilliant and unconvetional docs selected by CC+MA researcher and filmmaker Rasheed Peters. watch.eventive.org/ccma/play/627e…

Both films explore communities with deep and complex histories navigating an uncertain future. CANARSIE looks at ecology, transit, and lingering effects of Hurricane Sandy & Native displacement in Brooklyn. NO KINGS is an intimate look at Caiçara fishing families in Brazil.

The program also features a powerful discussion with Steele, Packer, Mello & Peters, questioning adaptation and resiliency and reflecting on the extreme rainfall & catastrophic landslides that affected the community of Ponta Negra depicted in NO KINGS. floodlist.com/america/brazil…
