Marshall Fire started when wind reignited and then blew buried embers from a fire on Dec 24th into nearby vegetation. A second fire likely caused by powerlines also contributed. No indication that fire started in nearby shed. Boulder County Sheriff’s Office

The Marshall Fire started as two fires that became one at some point during that day says Boulder County Sheriff’s Office. Buried embers caused one, the other was likely caused by powerlines though underground coal fires can't be completely ruled out.
