Guys watch out! If you don’t stop protesting the slaughter of innocents, you’ll never be able to work for these companies that support it!

New Left Anchor (@leftanchor.bsky.social ) episode just dropped! This week the hosts talk about how students protesting Israel have been the subject of brutal state repression, while Donald Trump gets star treatment from the courts despite his many crimes. prospect.org/podcasts/2024-…

The most pressing thing here is that this is calling anti-genocide protestors violent in order to justify their repression. That's reprehensible. Also, 'this isn’t a moment for politics' is one of the main ways Biden and company carry out a brutal form of politics.

I cannot emphasize enough that this is the express result of Biden announcing open season on Palestine protestors, i.e. the federal Department of Education will not protect their civil rights. Perhaps the most consequential act of his presidency in higher ed policy.

'Right Wing Free Speech must be enshrined, everyone must be forced to listen to it, indulged, broadcast, but free speech that conservatives disagree with must be shut down' Bingo, excellent discussion Left Anchor (@leftanchor.bsky.social ) twitter.com/ryanlcooper/st…

Amazing to watch this rhetorical drift in real time. Trespassing isn’t violence, by any definition of the word. The vast bulk of the encampments are being sieged and broken up because of trespassing and the violence is being carried out entirely by police and rightwing vigilantes

Biden is the white moderate MLK warned us about. Imagine saying with a straight face “Dissent must never lead to disorder.” Man, fuck you.

So much left-of-center political discourse functions to obscure what might be the most basic and fundamental fact about our politics, which is: that the class solidarity rich liberals feel with reactionaries constantly trumps any loyalty to their progressive base

A day of silence from this luminary when it turned out they were all students. That fact wasn't, it turns out, as interesting as the one he wanted it to be

It should be incredibly apparent to everyone now that Trump is not the ultimate threat we face, he is the symptom of a much deeper threat that is gaining ground in nearly every institution, every boardroom, every newspaper, every police station and every community in this country

I've written on political dissent & violent policing for 15 years, particularly in NYC. Compared to Tuesday night, I have never witnessed, at the scene of a protest, the use of police power so disproportionate to the type of demonstration taking place. theintercept.com/2024/05/01/nyc…

I say this a lot, but Gabe is right: the state and national Dems are setting the precedents now for any crackdown under a second Trump administration.

I feel like I'm losing my mind a little: people understand that 'occupying buildings on campus' is, like, one of the most common forms of studen protest for decades and not some devious new ploy devised by professional anarchist plotters, right?
