Over at Common Craft - now on Threads we've been working on a video that explains #Mastodon using a pop culture analogy. The poster image has some clues:

I feel like we're getting back to our roots in social media. Our first videos care from passion for blogs, wikis, rss, etc. They are about ideas and not companies. Once companies started running the show, it wasn't as exciting anymore. That's why Mastodon is different for me.

It's been fun working on this video, in part, because I'm fascinated with the fediverse and new, less-commercial directions for social media. I've enjoyed using Mastodon and believe it's a healthier approach to connecting online. My account is here: sanjuans.life/@lee
