In response to FIGS, SIU Medicine want to clarify that we have the medical terminology down, are well published, present at national meetings & provide exceptional care for patients. We challenge others to stand up and show your accomplishments!

If you've been exposed to Covid, quarantine for 14 days—even if you don't feel ill. Otherwise, you could spread the virus to someone who dies from it.

To those with outpatient panels, may I offer up two holy phrases for every visit:
“Do you need any refills?” and “What pharmacy are you using?”

Always trust the patient more than the EHR.

I find it very confusing when a male physician emails me “Hi Danielle” and then proceeds to sign the email “Dr. So and So”.

Umm. This happened already twice this am 🧐

Masks: before it was proven they work to protect against Covid, they weren't recommended. Once they were proven, they were recommended. That's not, Some people say yes and some say no. Rather, it's progress. It's how science works. By following science, we can save more lives.

Recent conversations (& my response)

Covid isn’t a big deal—IT IS
People are overreacting—NO WE’RE NOT
We need exposure to help our immune system—NOPE
Masks don’t do anything—YES THEY DO

Disheartened by the embrace of misinformation

Keep up the education/advocacy my friends

A newly graduated MD just asked me what my #1 piece of advice is for starting intern year tomorrow. And 6 years in a row of my medical training this advice never changed.

Listen to the nurses.

MYTH: Social distancing doesn't work because the death numbers aren't as high and all hospitals aren't running out of equipment.
FACT: The reason the death count isn’t even higher is bc people have been practicing social distancing.

This is a temporary situation and bc we are in a pandemic. It isn’t permanent and it isn’t taking away people’s rights. It’s implementing measures to saves lives.

This type of mass gathering is directly responsible for physicians, nurses and other health care workers deaths. The people who take care of you and put themselves and their families in harm's way every day to keep you safe are dying.

E.g. It’s the law not to drink and drive, to wear a seat belt. These are not ways in which the govt takes away civil liberties. Right now, there is a need to put in place some rules and regulations to prevent massive numbers of deaths and protect the population. IMPACT4HC

MYTH: It's people's right to do what they want and congregate.
FACT: Laws, rules, regulations exist to protect members of society. The govt has the power to enact measures for the safety of the people and enforce if needed.
