There is absolutely no place for political violence in our democracy. Although we don’t yet know exactly what happened, we should all be relieved that former President Trump wasn’t seriously hurt, and use this moment to recommit ourselves to civility and respect in our politics.

Armed security didn’t stop the gunman at a store in Buffalo or a nightclub in Orlando. They couldn’t prevent shootings at schools in Santa Fe, Parkland or Uvalde. And now, even Secret Service couldn’t stop a shooting at a political rally in Pennsylvania. It’s the fucking guns.

When he becomes the VP, Tim Walz and I plan to organize other Dads to go around with us door to door to ask all the kids who left the lights on.
