Older People in acute hospitals shouldn’t be “waiting for social care” Lord Darzi - they should be spending time in Intermediate Care - reducing longer term demands on both the NHS and Social Care!

2% of the population (aged over 85) use this amount of hospital bed days because acute illness in this age group is accompanied by a physical and cognitive decline that will persist until remedied. Properly staffed offsite rehabilitation beds would transform our hospitals.
