Excited to teach Machine Learning in Computational Biology this semester! Lots of interesting new developments to talk about since the last course offering two years ago.

Our paper is now out in Genome Biology! We used AlphaFold2 to identify how alternative splicing in human cells changes protein structure--specifically protein compactness, PTM site accessibility, surface charge, IDRs, and predicted functions. genomebiology.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.11…

🧠 Toward the #VirtualCell era: we stress‑test foundation models & GRN/AE/VAE methods and show when/why they win. and we found PerturbNet achieve very good result on benchmarks Josh Welch, foundation model have limited generalization but win on some metrics

Very proud of my student, Chen Li, who defended his dissertation today! Chen developed the MultiVelo approach for modeling cell differentiation. His latest paper extending MultiVelo was just accepted this week! nature.com/articles/s4158…
