A few days after the election I got an email from someone who works in social for a large news organization. I've included a screenshot below. It's clear to me that legacy media needs to build a new social media playbook. Let me explain why.

It’s not an accident that TikTok and Twitter accounts like philip lewis, Acyn, b-boy bouiebaisse, Under The Desk News, and Pop Crave show up on my timeline and FYP more than news organizations. That's because these accounts prioritize on-platform reach over driving site traffic.

I asked the subscriber who emailed me their frustrations to expand more on what specifically wasn’t working within social at their news organization. They said:

Anyone have any good videos of campaign folks or academics discussing campaigns use of digital media--strategies, shortfalls, etc. that could be good for an undergrad class? Everything I see is 1-2 minutes that is too high level to be useful or 50+ minutes & going into the weeds.
