“I have seen men survive diseases that women do not because of the care that women caregivers provide to their male partner when they are sick-I have only seen that happen once or twice for a female patient being taken care of by a man when she is sick.” My jaw is on the floor.

Apparently, lemons are not naturally occurring. They're a hybrid by cross breeding a bitter orange and a citron. So basically life never gave us lemons, we created them ourselves.

I absolutely love when magazines pair my words with artwork and photographs from amazing artists. As a huge art fan with no skill in the visual arts department this is the closest I ever come to living my little art history baby dreams. Never fails to make me happy. Huge thanks.

Trauma doesn't make people stronger. It damages their nervous system. It hijacks their digestive track. It keeps the person in a constant loop of hypervigilance. To tell someone they are stronger because of trauma is to deny what it has cost them to survive.

I get this question lots: what do I wish I knew 20 years ago? I wish I knew it all matters. you're still a writer when you're not writing the book, when you're living it, all the thinking, all the quitting, all the pointlessness still counts. You already are, so go through it

you've heard "cut the beginning of the poem" and "this poem ends several lines before its end," but what I am proposing I do from now on is eliminating the middle of the poem too

Tried to write some non-fiction and ended up crying to too hard and had to stop. So now I’m going to write something about witches or monsters that is secretly about the thing that made me cry. Take that, trauma! Bet you can’t find me hiding in all this magical stuff! Eat it!
