Is there a word like ‘petrachor’ for the green mist of opening leaf buds in a spring woodland? It’s when winter is definitely over.

Most people were at Kew to see the fabulous Sakura cherry blossom - but Morus Londinium was looking for mulberries - two sadly lost last year. Read more here:

The Red mulberry (Morus rubra) has never done well outside its Native North American east coast. A semi mature specimen at Kew Gardens didn’t survive. Let’s hope this young scion does better. Buds more advanced than a nearby Black mulberry.

Haven’t posted for a while. We’re gearing up for more coverage of mulberries beyond Greater London. Peter was in Oxford on Friday.

Harvesting next to the veteran Gainsborough House black mulberry in Sudbury with IASSRT Silk Road specialists and makers before visiting Humphries Weaving. Amazing day. Quinces often grown alongside mulberries to balance “energies” of the trees.

Last day in Norwich after 2 days of fascinating talks on Textiles on the Silk Roads. This handsome young mulberry in The Halls near the cathedral.
