I’ve been exploring Mars for more than 12 years – and it still surprises me with its beauty! For instance: These iridescent clouds drifting high in the Martian sky. Studying them provides insight into Mars' atmosphere – valuable info for future robotic and human missions.

Just published! Even NASA cleanrooms—designed to be ultra-clean—harbor resilient, novel bacteria. 26 new species were found, some forming biofilms, resisting radiation, and producing biotech-relevant compounds. Check it here: microbiomejournal.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.11…

Wishing upon a... moon? That bright "star" is actually Mars' moon Deimos. In the hours before dawn, I snapped this long-exposure image with my left Navcam and caught Deimos as well as two stars from the constellation Leo in the sky. It's definitely a mood, as they say.

🚨 new paper alert! science.org/doi/10.1126/sc… During my PhD, one of the most frustrating challenges was trying to interpret genes labeled as “hypothetical proteins.” 1/n

Are scientists "absolutely insatiable" like lovers in 1950s films? 🎬 After reading the new Bostrychia moritziana genome paper by Petroll et al., we tend to believe so! We, with David López Escardó, were thrilled to write a commentary in Current Biology on this work. The authors

In 1960, Freeman Dyson proposed a megastructure to capture all the Sun’s energy - the Dyson Sphere. That’s what a Type II civilization needs. At ~2.5% annual growth (like 1960–2025), we’ll need a whole star in 1,200 years. A Dyson Sphere isn’t sci-fi - it’s a forecast.
