We target the systemic reasons our rivers are suffering.
We're one of the few river charities not taking money from water companies.

Public alerts for river pollution are essential.
Sadly, it seems the Environment Agency has ended notifications for North London.
They planned to do this in 2021, we held them to account & changed their mind.
We didn't think we'd have to do it again.

When we pressed Thames Water to reveal all its hidden sewer overflows they didn't know how many would actually discharge.
142 were revealed.
Most of these are in London, doubling the number of outfalls in some areas.
Here's one that's spilling now:

In some parts of London the Thames Tideway supersewer will intercept some sewer overflows.
But, crucially, not all. And not the ones going into small rivers. These will be damaged most by sewers that spill after a little rain - more concentrated pollution in less water.

To tackle sewer overflows we can be more precise & focus on those that spill after just a little rain.
Before the 6th Feb there had been 10 days of virtually dry weather = few sewer overflows.
6/2/24 it rained, not much more than 10 mm, but these sewers spilled (2nd photo).
