šŸ¦…THE L.A. TIMES GUILD IS WALKING OUTšŸ¦… We are calling for a one-day walkout TOMORROW, Jan. 19, in protest of management's proposal to cut staff and multiple unfair labor practices. docs.google.com/document/d/1gJā€¦

WAMU management and American University, which owns our license, has let us and you ā€” our listeners, readers, and members ā€” down. They have failed to steward the service we all rely on. We know the journalism industry is struggling, but poor leadership has led us to this moment.

We are devastated to hear about the decision to layoff 15 of our friends at WeMakeWAMU is a union and close our sister site DCist. Management has limited access to the site, which we hope is reversed to ensure their vital public service is memorialized.

If you want to know why the Long Beach Post and Long Beach Business Journal wonā€™t contain any original content tomorrow this is an important thread to read. Support us by signing our petition and help keep our local paper local.

We stand with Long Beach Media Guild. It's profoundly dissapointing to see management decide to decimate the newsroom. There are THREE reporters left. This needs to be reveresed ā€” we call on Melissa Evans to voluntarily recognize the Guild. āŒDON'T cross the click-it line āŒ

We stand in solidarity with our colleagues at student newspapers doing vital reporting in challenging circumstances this week. We are especially alarmed by the attack on student journalists with the Daily Bruin. Journalists must be able to work without fear of violence.

The news is out to members: LAist will be offering buyouts to staff. It may not be enough to prevent layoffs. There will be plenty of work happening over the next few weeks with our union, but I ask that if you love LAist, consider donating: support.laist.com

We are heartbroken by this and stand in solidarity with our colleagues We Make LAist (formerly KPCC). This follows layoffs at public media shops across the U.S. and comes less than a year after LAist eliminated 21 roles in a "restructuring." Please support their work however you can.

LAist announced layoffs this week & began notifying employees who will be let go today. We arenā€™t sure yet how many union members will be affected. But we are already losing 11 unit members and 10 more members of our staff to voluntary buy-outs. Weā€™ll have more to say soon.

I was one of the people laid off from LAist yesterday. I didnā€™t take the buyout bc I was excited about some of the things I had in the works. Iā€™m sad I wonā€™t get to finish them, but Iā€™m really proud of the work I did there and grateful for my colleagues and all I learned.
