During our exploration of various grape varieties across Armenia, we have discovered a treasure trove of indigenous grapes in Syunik Province that have been long neglected or remain unknown.ย  My favourites are Chragi Yerkser (black coloured) and Spitak Chragi (white coloured).

The next indigenous wine grape variety, "Meghru Sev" originates from Meghri, Syunik Province in Armenia. This variety was first discovered in an old vineyard in the early 1950s. "Meghru Sev" is genetically identified, documented and preserved as a unique wine grape variety.

The neglected table grape variety, "Vayri Itsaptouk," discovered in the oldest vineyard in Meghri, Syuniq Province, has never been described before in ampelography. This unique plant was found by us and named by local farmers.

This particular grapevine variety was overlooked until discovered in an old vineyard in Leivaz village, Meghri, Syunik Province by us. The name "Spitak Shiri khaghogh" was officially recorded in the first ampelography book published in 1948.

One of the "unknown" autochthonous grapevines was discovered in the century-old vineyard in Vayots Dzor. The precise characterization was done and the close genetic relationship to the emblematic Armenian wine grape variety Voskehat was shown.
