Your reminder that reducing access to sex education at the same time as reducing access to reproductive healthcare will result in more sexually transmitted infections and unplanned pregnancies. But maybe that is the point? #abhealth #ableg

A lot of recent media coverage on supervised consumption sites in Canada. If you want to know how they work and what the evidence says about their health and social outcomes whyscs.ca has lots of infographics and evidence briefs on this topic.

Hi folks. It's been a long time. I have been off this platform for many reasons. It's pretty toxic around here sometimes and I needed a long extended break. It was nice. I probably won't stay for long. But let's talk about Family Medicine in #Alberta 👇 1/x

@DanWilliamsALTA @DanWilliamsALTA Detox beds are great, but last I checked, they don’t save lives during an overdose. Calgarians know we need BOTH. 294 signatures say you're missing the point. Sign here: forms.gle/thJn62ijK4bJ34… #ableg #yyccc #abpoli

As the future of Calgary's only supervised drug-use site is being debated, some stats on its usage: Safeworks has recorded more than 305,000 client visits since opening in Oct 2017. Between then and March 2024, staff responded to 7,730 overdoses. There have been no deaths. #yyc

Much needed context on the political debate surrounding Calgary’s lone SCS. If closed, Calgary would stand out as one of the only major cities in Canada without this life-saving healthcare service. #yyc #ableg livewirecalgary.com/2024/10/03/opi…

When it comes to substance use disorder treatment, it needs to be voluntary, effective, affordable, accessible, & appealing. We all agree that we need more treatment - let’s make sure it actually helps people. Read our new report: drugpolicy.org/TreatmentDebate

Unhoused people are victims of homelessness, not the cause of homelessness. Demonizing them won’t actually get rid of homelessness.

the fact that the decline in deaths is consistent across jurisdictions with vastly different approaches indicates that the primary cause of the reduction of fatalities is the changes in the unregulated drug supply – #bcpoli cbc.ca/news/canada/br…

Frustrating to watch drug deaths being used as a vehicle for advancing economic agendas, but no new policies or new investments that are likely to actually make a difference for the people at risk of dying. #cndpoli #ableg

Harm reduction isn’t about nudging people toward abstinence—it’s about rejecting the idea that drug use makes someone disposable in the first place.

I worked at south riverdale for 15 years. The closure of this site is the loss of a life line. These last weeks many people have died including a coworker who we bury on Thursday. Life is struggle for the majority. SCS cannot solve poverty or homelessness. It can be a refuge💔
