Watching not only one of the best Blaxploitation movies ever. One of the best gangster movies ever made period. Fred Williamson kicking some ass and James Brown with some awesome music.

I had an opportunity to appear again on a podcast episode with host David Blakeslee where we discussed the 1973 Larry Cohen film Black Caesar starring Fred Williamson and Gloria Hendry featuring a killer soundtrack by James Brown. Check out the link to the Criterioncast episode…

Sophie Crankers Saw this for the first time not long ago and thought it was great! I think your review where you point out how straight Larry Cohen plays it is exactly right. I need to watch the sequels, and I'd read this comic.

This 1930 atmospheric night shot of the Pantages Theatre on Hollywood Blvd ticks all the boxes: A towering blade sign, a huge marquee filled with the packed shows that movie houses used to offer back then, Frank Fink’s neon sign, and that automobile caught in silhouette.

Shawn Hunt The trailer for Larry Cohen’s “It’s Alive” (1976) freaked me out when I was a kid. I had to buy the movie poster as an adult just to exorcise the demons.

23rd April

Larry Cohen

A consumate workman who made the diligent churning out of loglines distilled with crystal clarity an artform to rival a Bach concerto. Late in the game, he still had it. GUILTY AS SIN is as ripe and delicious a specimen as ever blasted across the screen.

Writer/director Larry Cohen injects his signature oddball sense of humor into a conspiracy thriller, matched well with Eric Roberts’ own style of doing-it-all acting.

THE AMBULANCE screens on 35mm 4/18 at Prospect Park in our RIDICULOUS <> SUBLIME series: bit.ly/3VyM4R6

Apparently Larry Cohen sorta wrote a western (El Condor 1970) starring Jim Brown and Lee Van Cleef which was shot in Spain.
That's obviously gonna be more fun than Django Unchained.

Yep a fine random film find for Easter Sunday if I don't say so myself.

Robert Meyer Burnett, Viceroy of Verisimilitude Larry Cohen was a classic 'Catholic Jew' as discussed in his Incredibly Strange Films-interview.
I watched a Cohen-scripted film that I'd never seen before the other day, 'El Condor', co-written with Steven Carabatsos.
Better than lots of stuff made today.

Watched A RETURN TO THE SALEM’S LOT on blu-ray recently. I hear this was slammed at the time of its release, but I found it entertaining and (as always) thought-provoking. The climax reminded me of BLACK CAESAR.👍
