Thousands of Albertans have spoken out against the Government of Alberta’s proposed provincial police service and yet they continue to push this unpopular and expensive idea. It is time for the Government to start listening to and focus on the issues that truly matter to them.

A transition to a provincial police service is estimated to cost Alberta over $550m, plus inevitable delays, inflation, and unexpected expenses. This money would be better invested reinforcing the RCMP, hiring more Crown Prosecutors, and investing in other essential services.

The Government of Alberta’s transition study severely overestimates the number of sworn police officers who might transfer to a new police service and does not consider the shortage of police officers across the country and recruitment challenges.
