As an underrepresented scientist (economic, ethnic) that got her 1st paper after 2.5 years of postdoc, this initiative to reduce the period of fellowship is extremely exclusionary. During my fellowship I got more 22 papers after that; unprivileged people need TIME to grow, NIH.

The time to think and inquire are precious. Inquiring means to contemplate a problem without needing an immediate answer, to sit in the unknown long enough that different kinds of answers emerge. Important part of the process of discovery. nature.com/articles/d4158…
