Nationality and Borders Bill back in Parliament today fingers, toes, arms, legs and brain all crossed in hope that social workers will be supported by amendment 64A and not be legally forced to treat children and young people against thier best interst and ethical practice.

Fine words in our tragic world. We must step up and truly welcome those fleeing and end the nasty hostile laws and attitudes they face. Lets hope MPs find thier moral compass today.

Unsurprisingly the Lords amendment on age assessment (amendment 22) was voted down in the commons last night, along with all other positive changes. As social workers we will need to mobilise to do whatever we can to ensure we are not complicit in the harm this bill will do.

Its not surprising but it is devastating to see the outcomes of the votes on the N&B Bill, soon to be Act. Where has the moral compass of humanity and compassion gone with such a hostile law. I hope there will be a loud condemnation from the social work world
