We all know what a #television is, but who invented it? Russian #ConstantinPerskyi coined the word in 1900. Frenchmen #GeorgesRignoux and A. Fournier made the first live transmission of an image in 1909. Their compatriot #EdouardBelin sent the first image via radio waves in 1921.

#Scotsman #JohnLogieBaird is credited with making the first successful #television demonstration in 1926, but he gave his first public show almost a year earlier, on 25th March 1925, at #Selfridges Department Store. The star of the show? A ventriloquist's dummy named #StookyBill.

Featured in #StanAndOllie is the rarely seen #OliverHardy film #Zenobia, which he made for #HalRoach Studios in 1939 while #StanLaurel was involved in a contract dispute. His co-star was fellow silent star #HarryLangdon, whose #deadpan persona never quite gelled with the talkies.
