The Hon. Meri Akopyan, Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, is in Sacramento tonight providing a briefing on how hard the early days of the war were, the privations her people endured, and the toughness they are showing - a free people determined to remain free.

Rest in Peace, Rex Hime. A fine man, Rex had an engaging & dignified way with people, even as he shared his always incisive views. It made him well-liked & “in the mix” in Sacramento for decades. We worked together many years & in 2022 I administered his last Fair Board oath.

For my 6 years as Chair of the Cal. Senate & Assembly Joint Rules Committee, the Capitol Annex re-build - very daunting - was my job. Despite its hurdles, I told staff was all good things must work through 3 words - Impossible, Improbable & Inevitable. Here it is yesterday.

Calif’s asbestos-sick Capitol Annex is gone. A welcoming Annex looms. The plan would deconflict entries by again greeting visitors below an 1860’s showcase - an allegory in stone they’ve been steered away from for years. The allegory? Govt’s work is to subdue life’s risks
