Initially it was ruled his name should be kept anonymous by an internal hearing but they ultimately decided to publish it because: "It is absolutely vital that we are open, transparent, and accountable if we are to restore public confidence in policing". Learnings for HEIs here

It’s happening in UK schools, colleges and universities. People (most often women and girls), targeted & harmed are then betrayed by their communities and the institutions who have legal and ethical duties to protect them. This has to change. It will need courage and leadership.

πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡ This will happen more and more. #HE #FE do you see this? Do you hear us? Improvements in our accountability processes are desperately needed. It will take bold hearts and strong minds.

Sadly, much of this account sounds familiar to us from our research and activism within universities. But even universities (mostly) now seem to know better than to discourage people from reporting... Unlike this account of the Guardian's response.

If you’re working against harassment, bullying or GBV in higher ed, or any organisation really, environmental investigations are a useful tool for addressing multiple issues

There are still folks in #HE who say all sexual misconduct reports should be referred to the police. The implication is that victims should shut up and put up with it-if they can’t safely access their education, then that’s just tough. And that is not okay!

We've had a productive day with the University of Bristol working on their strategic planning for tackling gender based violence. We were worried that what we were asking of them would be too daunting and overwhelming as there is a LOT to do, but we made good progress!
