“Pushing back against authority figures” Yeah because obviously being a critical and independent thinker is a bad thing isn’t it… 🙄

Interesting article that fits with my experience of private MH provision (although the issues seem the same across all providers IME) novaramedia.com/2025/03/27/pri…

“After refusing to take drugs offered by staff, the girl was restrained and injected with medication that is “rarely administered to children”. How many other appropriate responses to coercion are pathologised & forcibly medicated in mh services? 🤔 theguardian.com/world/2025/apr…

Reality check, Labour: IAPT Talking Therapies stats show 1.8M referrals, over 60% drop out. Of 1.2M who start, 45% quit. Just 336K recover. PIP claimants are not mild cases. They’re the illest—often in secondary services. You can’t cut support by pretending therapy is a magic fix

My PhD thesis on crisis intervention for 'borderline personality disorder' is finally freely available online. My favourite review of this was a friend who said the writing style was like he'd been invited in for a cup of tea. Not horribly academic. rgu-repository.worktribe.com/output/2795393

My blog for the The Mental Elf today. This is the frequently unacknowledged narrative around those I work with 👇👇👇 nationalelfservice.net/mental-health/…

There used to be a time when I needed to hear someone’s diagnosis so I’d know what to do. Now I try to understand what they think is ‘wrong’, work out how I can help and imagine what label others would put to these problems, then consider how much influence that has. Better?

My feedback is that Gemini won’t talk to you about suicide and directs you elsewhere while ChatGPT is remarkably validating. 👍

Why do we force people to stay in places that we can see are harming them? Shared this elsewhere earlier so popping it here too beamconsultancy.co.uk/the-blog/2020/…
