There aren’t words for the pain and horror inflicted by police and then by policymakers on Uvalde families.

All I offer is to be an advocate by their side as long as it takes.

A dozen people were selected on Jan. 19 to serve on a special grand jury that is expected to spend at least six months studying the May 24, 2022, Robb school shooting investigation. About 300 people were summoned and 67 appeared.

No matter how we got to this place — and I'm sure it was well-intentioned at every turn — no one can credibly argue that a gun owned by 6% of gun owners is 'common.'

Or that the Uvalde gunman should've been able to access it.

Another reason to love and respect Council Member Alison Alter. Appointing Acevedo is such a slap in the face to survivors - truly unreal that the City chose this.

Last night during my screening I was asked why I’m running for Congress.

The short answer is: my oldest child was killed in a school shooting in 2018.

The ACLU of Texas will continue to work closely with ACLU National on other critical issues facing our state. Yet, in this moment, we join the NYCLU and other affiliates across the country in clearly stating our dissent.

Please , please do not share the Washington Post. My daughter being taken from this world wasn’t fair to begin with, it’s not fair how she was taken either. Amerie, her classmates, & her teachers don’t deserve this.

Our fall event, A Safer Texas, was an opportunity to come together to pause, reflect, & celebrate the progress that we’ve made together. Saami Baig, Co-Executive Director of Houston March for Our Lives, spoke from a high school student’s perspective about gun violence prevention.

This month, we opened Texas’ 1st #TraumaRecovery Center. Through this partnership with City of Austin, Travis County TX & African American Youth Harvest Foundation, the Harvest TRC will provide mental health treatment & legal assistance to survivors of violence.
