Did you know porcupines are good swimmers? Their quills are hollow making them act as a natural flotation aid.

Porcupines are the second largest rodent in North America, beavers being the largest, and adults can weigh up to 25 pounds!

Well, that depends. In Europe, these animals are known simply as reindeer. In Alaska & Canada, reindeer is a term only used for these animals if they are semi-domesticated.

Calling all Volunteers
Katmai National Park and Preserve is looking to fill a total of six Brooks Camp Volunteer positions.

These positions will be open to applicants starting January 29th and will close to applications on Febuary 12th.

Amalik Bay, on the Katmai coast, is both a National Historic Landmark and an Archeological District listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It's one of only five places in the state of Alaska to have both designations.
