We often talk about gender as a social construct – but less frequently discussed are the roots of gender as we know it today as a *colonial* construct. Join Emma Rhule and me as we discuss this in greater detail in our new BMJ Global Health paper: go.unu.edu/584Ms
Earlier this year, Emma Rhule Anila Jose khadijah Al-khared & I published an analysis of authorship trends in global health. Many thanks to Madhu Pai Julia Robinson & Dr. Catherine Kyobutungi Muzukulu wa Bityo for the opportunity to reflect on our findings & articulate three calls to action: go.unu.edu/CBtCJ.
Our dismal findings from the initial UNU International Institute for Global Health analysis drove home the fact that global health remains in dire need of decolonising. We hope more colleagues will join us in supporting epistemic pluralism, favouring progressive journals, and rethinking incentive structures.
Over the past five years, we've been exploring what it would mean to bring a futures mindset to our work at UNU International Institute for Global Health. In this retrospective (go.unu.edu/ASxuy), Emma Rhule and I share some learnings and reflections from our journey thus far.
We look forward to continuing this exploration of what it takes to not just envision but realise equitable futures. Thank you to the futures community, particularly Dr. Katindi Sivi, for embracing 2 newcomers & being so generous with your space, time, & wisdom over the past 5 years!
Understanding Africa's youth bulge is crucial for shaping the continent's future. Dr. Dr. Katindi Sivi an Afri-futurist, explores challenges and opportunities facing young people in Kenya and beyond. 💭How can we harness Africa's youth bulge as a catalyst for positive change?
Something we don't talk about in the post is the importance of leaders as champions. Thank you to Pascale & Rajat Khosla, who not only gave us the space to explore new ways of thinking & doing but also championed the integration of those approaches into UNU International Institute for Global Health's work!
On 28thAugust 2024 WFD Kenya hosted Senate of Kenya Senate Liaison Office for a consultative meeting on strategic futures foresight support, discussing ways to extend strategic foresight into the legislative work of the Senate.
