Swedish registry study: after child/spouse/partner #bereavement there is an elevated risk of any #psychiatric disorder in the 1st year after bereavement (HR= 2.81; 2.72-2.91) & thereafter (HR=1.42; 1.40-1.44), suggesting need for early clinical surveillance & service provision.

Mediation analysis shows that depression mediates 2% of the association between suicide #bereavement and #suicide in partners when using bereaved controls. We need more work to understand what else explains the elevated risk of suicide (HR = 1.59, 95% CI 1.36–1.86).
