Witnessing the Wild Hunt was a way to predict future catastrophes like war or plague. Some people's spirits were abducted, even during sleep, & bound for the underworld or Fairy kingdom, never to return. 🪄🏇 #FairyTaleTuesday #Norsevember

People, it’s time to stop watching cat videos and apply fingers to keyboards/quill pens to vellum for this week’s #WedsStory. This week’s optional theme is: LUCK. Feel free to join in with the hashtag to air your #WIP or just spark ideas for your #writing

They’d given the Old King the skull of one of their most valiant soldiers as in acknowledgement of his fearsome reputation on the battlefield. Not generally a superstitious man, the Old King believed that the skull aided his formidable success. Now that skull was dust. #WedsStory

In Norse #mythology (Ragnarök), a giant name Surtr, along with his bright sword, will do battle against the Æsir, particularly with god Freyr, leading to flames brought forth that will engulf the Earth. 🔥 #fire #WyrdWednesday

It was previously thought #grief was an emotion exclusive to humans. Studies prove many animals show grief regarding death, (some of us knew this already), & in this haunting painting, Anguish, a grieving ewe mourning the #death of her lamb. 🐑 #LegendaryWednesday

It was November - the month of crimson sunsets, parting birds, deep, sad hymns of the sea, passionate wind-songs in the pines. 🌲 🍂 📖 Anne of Green Gables ✍️ L.M. Montgomery #BookWormSat #BookTwitter #Autumn (📷 by me 🙂)

Those who don't study #history are doomed to repeat it. Those who do study history are doomed to warn everyone else and watch helplessly while a bunch of knuckleheads repeat history because of "the good ol' days". #vss365

The Acer belongs to the maple family of #trees, produces vibrant #colour in #autumn & distinctive foliage. Native to Asia, Acers symbolise protection, strength, endurance & longevity. Branches hung over doors ward off #witches & evil #spirits. #FolkloreSunday

Like Elder, Elm #trees were associated with Earth Goddesses, & said to be home for fairies during winter. According to Kipling, one should never burn elm: "Ailim be the lady's tree; burn it not or cursed ye'll be". #FolkloreSunday

Larch #trees are one of the few conifers that shed their needles in winter. 🌲 In Sami & Siberian mythology, it takes the place of an Ash as the World-tree. Smoke from burning larch is said to offer protection warding off evil spirits. 🔥 #FolkloreSunday (📷 by me 🙂)

In Denmark Hulda lived in the root of an elder, hence the #tree was her symbol, & peasants would not cut down an elder for fear of Hyldemor, the Elder-mother, who dwelt in its trunk, a belief also found in Eastern England. #folkloresunday
