Remember, if local authorities in Georgia had their way, no one would have ever been charged for the murder of Ahmaud Arbery. It took weeks of protest before charges were even brought in the case, 74 days after Arbery was shot and killed in February 2020.

My hope is renewed in a just God but we must not forget that #AhmaudAubrey's life has been lost to an injustice that this court can never correct. Another Black mother is sitting down at Thanksgiving without her son.

Relieved that the jury found the murderers guilty. But that feeling of relief in itself tells you how used to injustice we are and how little we can trust the courts or the legal system to hold the right people accountable. #McMichaelBryanTrial #AhmaudArbery

To be clear: Justice would mean Ahmaud Arbery was alive today. It would mean he was spending Thanksgiving with his loved ones. It would also mean the police would have immediately arrested his killers.

To be Black is to be constantly rendered the problem—in life, in death. But the loved ones of #AhmaudArbery refused to believe the lie. The problem is racism, not Black people. What’s dangerous is racist fear running wild, not a Black male running down the street.

#AmaudArbery’s Mother fought for the guilty verdict of his killers. Why did she have to? Systematic racism! “It’s been a long fight. It’s been a hard fight, but God is good,” she told reporters Wednesday. “To tell you the truth, I never saw this day back in 2020.”

Too many evangelicals get really liberal with the biblical text when the topic is social justice. Some do all kinds of acrobatics to avoid the authority of Scripture on that issue. But you can’t maintain a high view of Scripture and ignore its clear justice mandate. (&)
