You can put away the rain gear for this weekend as we dry out and start to heat up. Thankfully, the humidity will be tolerable, which will temper our heat index and keep us from heat advisory criteria. Have a great weekend! #etxwx

It was on this date 8 years ago (August 25, 2017) when Hurricane Harvey made landfall in Rockport, Texas, as a major, category four hurricane. Weak steering currents kept him around for several days, leading to major flooding in Houston.

Our rain chances will remain on the low-end this week before they ramp up to 60% on Friday and Saturday when a second and stronger cold front advances through east Texas. You may want to pack the rain ponchos for week 1 of high school football in the Red Zone on Friday night.

One telling sign that fall is around the corner and football season is here is the later sunrises and earlier sunsets as we are losing about 90 seconds of daylight with each passing day. Now we just need the cool breezes and fall cold fronts to follow suit.

We are cautiously optimistic that the Friday afternoon storms will be pushing south of the Trinity River by the time most of our high school football games kickoff in the 7 p.m. hour. Still could be some weather delays if lightning lingers near game sites. #etxwx The Red Zone

Our sun angle this month rivals what we see in the month of March. Both March and September represent the two equinoxes we see during the year in our orbit around the sun.

It will be a cloudy and damp weekend with a few pockets of rain passing through our east Texas landscape along and behind a cold front. The cold front will combine with the cloud cover to drop our temperatures a few notches. #etxwx

Tonight will be our coolest night in nearly four months as we are forecasting overnight lows to dip down into the 50's for most locales across the Texas Forest Country. The clear skies and dry air will make for a cool and pleasant night across the Piney Woods. #etxwx
