TIP: Wanna be better at #podcasting or #radio or your on-camera #television gig? Go to the open mike night in your town, every week, until you've perfected 10 minutes of stand-up comedy. You'll learn things in that process that will make you 3x better at your chosen profession.

TIP: Please stop trying to jam 40 seconds worth of words into a 30-second radio commercial. Just heard a spot for a political candidate who I guarantee you will lose. And he'll probably blame the advertising for it. #Copywriting isn't an afterthought.

NEW: It might be one of the most important ads ever run. For example: Would IKEA's ads be the same today if this one had never happened? youtu.be/2DX8GhYaeUY

TIP: Radio DJs sometimes play music tracks under their spoken word segments to create the illusion of forward momentum if the conversation drags. Wouldn't it be better to just have more interesting conversations?

NEW: If you haven't seen it yet, I've launched a new web series that looks at the greatest ads of all time, and digs into WHY they're great. youtu.be/2DX8GhYaeUY

TIP: Truth is that through earbuds, a $900 microphone sounds almost identical to a $90 microphone. Obsess less about your tech. Obsess more about your content.

TIP: If you're testing an ad with a coupon code, please have the courage to make it an offer worth using the code for. $5 off an oil change if I mention the ad? I don't care. No one cares.

TIP: Just because there's a piece of tech or software that makes something easier doesn't mean you've mastered the underlying skill. Your microwave doesn't make you a chef. There's no "Help" screen in the world that can replace a skilled teacher.

TIP: Actually, funny #commercials sell products just fine. Did you ever consider that your funny commercial didn't work because it wasn't actually funny? #advertising #marketing

TIP FOLLOWUP: If you're worried that I'll miss the sales message in your #podcast because I might be gone if it doesn't come until the middle of the show... uh... maybe make your show better?

TIP: Just as we wouldn't meet at a party and within five minutes you've asked if you can borrow twenty bucks, don't give me your Patreon or a link to sell me something in the first few minutes of your #podcast. This may be the first time I'm listening to you.

NEW: This is how you do it. A TON of effective marketing messages crammed into one really entertaining minute. youtu.be/L6M97mW8GXo

Sometimes I read through posts here and I miss the days when people used to just share photos of a sandwich. I feel bad that I'm not offering you some clickbait, or 17 different ways that I learned such-and-such because I do such-and-such for a living. ....in 2025.

What's fun in Canada right now: Watching #CPC voters blame #PierrePoilievre blowing a 20-point lead on... the media. I guess when you allow the media to tell you what to think so that you don't have to do any thinking for yourself, you think lots of things are the media's fault.
